Web/UX Design Intern

Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) - Internship
The NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS) is looking for a talented web/UX designer to work as an integral team member developing a new website design. The intern will conceptualize, design, and create mock-ups and photoreals to address specific client requests and needs-from small enhancements to entirely new website designs. The successful candidate will have excellent user experience design skills and be able to translate high-level requirements into meaningful interaction flows. Internship Responsibilities: Review and evaluate existing website designs and look for ways to improve them; Conceptualize original website design ideas, templates and website elements that meet project requirements, and abide by resource/ security limitations; Develop wire frames, interaction/UX story boards, and site maps that are cross platform and scale for multiple devices; Create new, and edit existing, CSS files; Document designs guidelines, best practices and standards; Perform file management, including naming conventions, folder organization and file migrations. The NCCS provides high-performance computing for NASA-sponsored scientists and engineers. Its integrated set of computational capabilities includes supercomputing, visualization, big data and analytics, cloud computing, and data sharing technologies. The mission of the NCCS is to enhance NASA capabilities in weather and climate prediction and enable future scientific discoveries that will benefit humankind. Our website can be found here: The web/UX design intern would be working on an interdisciplinary team including a project manager, web developer, science writer/communicator, and two additional technical contributors.   The Spring internship runs full-time from January 8th - April 27th, 2018. This is a paid internship.

Student's special skills: Interested applicants studying web/digital/graphic/interactive design, media arts, computer science or related major; Some experience developing wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and site maps; Strong passion for digital art and graphic design; Able to deliver tasks on time, sharp-eye for detail, and strong organizational skills; Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment; Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and Drupal a plus
